A brief overview on Yoga and its benefits:

Yoga originated in India thousands of years ago. Through the years many different styles and variations have evolved but the foundation of greater health, balance and mental awareness are still the foundation. For me the wonderful part is also that it is non-competitive or judgmental. By staying in the present moment and letting go of expectations you begin to listen to your body, breath and grounded in each pose. Chair yoga takes these benefits in a gentler form by sitting on a chair, or standing using a chair for support.

Improved flexibility

Flexibility allows us to do the activities we need and love to do, from twisting while driving to bending over to play with children.

Better concentration

Incorporating breath work with the poses can help clear your brain of unwanted thoughts, improve mood and decrease stress.

Increased strength

Body strength enables us to withstand falls and injury and helps us with balance.

Reduced joint strain

Chair yoga reduces the strain on joints and muscles, which allows someone who is unable to stand for traditional yoga an opportunity to practice too.

Portability and convenience

You can do chair yoga nearly anywhere you can find a place to sit.

About Rebecca

“You don’t always need a plan. Sometimes you just need to breathe. Trust. Let go, and see what happens.”

I have always struggled with anxiety and way before yoga studios where found on every block I took my first class, held in a dungy old building with squeaky floors. What I didn’t know is this class would change my life. Today I have taken this passion into becoming a 200hr RYT instructor and that anxiety can be calmed with learning how to breathe. Along my journey my mother also became interested in Yoga. She practiced Chair Yoga regularly till she past at 94! Her joy for life and movement have inspired me to teach others that the fundamentals of Yoga do not just happen on a mat.

“It’s quite a challenge both mentally and physically to concentrate on breathing as well as inward and outward movement. Rebecca brings a soothing presence and focus to the group. She is well-informed in the practice and history, and I will definitely continue for the next session.”
